We provide support at Pupil Education Plan (PEP), Reviews within the student’s placement, followed by two scheduled meetings with the student outside of the review to provide careers support, advice, information and guidance.
The 1:1 transition meeting provides a platform to plan for post 16 transitions, where there is no planned destination and or the student is experiencing barriers that may be preventing them from accessing post 16 choices.
The 1:1 support provides the student, (and carer), with a focused plan to meet personal and academic goals, supported by the Virtual School, with clear SMART steps to achieve the outcomes.
The Post 16 Pathway to Education, Training and Employment plan includes:
· Achievement so far and predicted grades
· What options are available, who can help to explore these options and what career routes can the student take to achieve their goals
· What are the barriers preventing the young person from achieving their aspirations? What is getting in the way?
For Example; Childcare, finance, offending behaviour, travel, health, emotional wellbeing, motivation, skills, ability, living situation etc.
The outcomes are shared at the summer PEP Review meeting to inform of planned destinations.
2018/19: Working with a London Borough Virtual School on Post 16 pathways, 92% of looked after children transitioned to College, training and or apprenticeships and have successfully continued with their education and training as a result from the additional support provided by Fresh Start in Education
