That’s what you would choose – so would we. Unfortunately, some of your more vulnerable students have NO choice, it can happen to any of them and will probably happen to some of them.
We know that for some young people the summer holidays are an extremely challenging time. For those experiencing childcare issues, poverty or financial hardship, the holidays bring a level of risk that is concerning. These young people do not just rely on school for education.
Our experience shows that young people who receive support from professionals throughout term-time are often left without access to help through the summer holiday.
This can mean that the hard work that has been done by the young person and their support network to make progress can be undone in a matter of weeks
It is so important for us to keep supporting young people during the school holidays, providing enrichment activities with a trusted adult in a safe space.
We stay open all year round, and during the summer we shift the focus of our interventions to be fun, creative and activity based. Our summer support packages not only help the most vulnerable children through the holidays, but also prepare them for the transition back to education in September reducing the likelihood of emotionally based school avoidance.
