Each October, Black History Month offers us the opportunity not only to celebrate the achievements of Black people throughout history but also to reflect on the lessons their journeys continue to teach us today. This year’s theme, “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and identity that sit at the heart of Black history and of education itself.
Power in Knowledge, Pride in Identity
Education is one of the most powerful tools for shaping lives. When young people learn about diverse histories, role models, and contributions, they develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. For Black students, seeing their culture, heritage, and stories reflected in lessons is not only empowering but essential in building self-belief and pride in their identity.
For all students, learning about Black history broadens perspectives, challenges stereotypes, and helps create more inclusive and compassionate communities.

Standing Firm Against Barriers
Throughout history, countless Black leaders, educators, and activists have stood firm against injustice, paving the way for greater equity and opportunity. Their determination inspires us to reflect on the barriers young people still face in education today, from exclusion and inequality of opportunity to the struggles of having their voices heard.
At Fresh Start in Education, we see the strength it takes for children and young people to overcome barriers every day. Our mission is to create a space where they can stand firm in their own power, discover their voice, and take pride in their achievements.
Building Inclusive Futures
Celebrating Black History Month is not just about reflecting on the past; it is also about taking action in the present. Schools and educators can:
These actions contribute to an inclusive future, where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Commitment
At Fresh Start in Education, we are committed to ensuring that young people from every background feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Standing firm in power and pride means giving students the confidence to know who they are, the strength to overcome challenges, and the hope to build a positive future.
This Black History Month, we celebrate the past, reflect on the present, and commit to shaping a future where every young person has the chance to stand tall, proud, and unafraid to use their voice.
