Students that are referred to Fresh Start in Education come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. Each provision is completely different as we design everything we do around the interests and complex needs of each student. The four main areas that Fresh Start in Education specialise in are:
A substantial number of referrals Fresh Start in Education receive are to work alongside students who are either school refusers or those excluded from education. This could be due to a whole number of issues including victims of bullying, home challenges, neglect and an inconsistent education history.
Over the last academic year Fresh Start in Education have received an increasing number of cases involving SEMH (Social and Emotional with Mental Health – formally SEBD). These students, as young as five years old come with a wide range of difficulties including ADHD, CSE, conduct disorder, anxiety, anger management, attachment disorder and self-harm.
Out of all referrals received by Fresh Start in Education a vast majority of them require some form of specialism and expertise within Special Educational Needs. This can include dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Global Development Delay, cognitive and learning delay.
There is an ever increasing demand on local authorities to not only place young people in care, but to keep them in education. Fresh Start in Education has established very close links with commissioners across the country in supporting Children in Care. Whether the student is local or out of county, we undertake a rigorous matching process to ensure the successful placement of all staff.
Education Specialists with Fresh Start in Education have all the advantages of working on a sessional basis. When a new student is referred to us, careful matching takes place between the needs of the student and the experience and suitability of individual Education Specialists.
Sessions take place during term-time, Monday to Friday, with a duration of 3 – 6 hours each depending on the student’s requirements. However, in some instances there may be the opportunity for the provision to take place outside of this timing or continue over weekends, half-term or school holidays etc.
Safeguarding is foundational to our practice so all candidates are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check as well as personal and professional reference and qualification checks. We require all Education Specialists to have their own Personal Liability or Professional Indemnity Insurance.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in a young person’s life who is in desperate need of someone to believe in them.
